Mens Weekly Teams Update – 21st May

Round 1 – Barton Cup versus Hollywood Lakes

Skerries had a fantastic win by 3 matches to 2 in an extremely tight match against Hollywood Lakes on Sun 18th May.  With 3 matches away, the pressure was on the home team to deliver 2 points, and they did not disappoint.  A 3 and 2 win by Paul O’Loughlin and Evan Goss was followed up with a 2 Up win by John McDonnell and Calvin Kinsella.

With Hollywood Lakes winning 2 of their home matches, all hinged on the final pair of Gavan Farrell and Stan Pyke.  And what a win they had.  It would be fair to say at 4 down after 12, we were not expecting this match to deliver the final point needed.  Undaunted, the lads turned the match on its head, winning the next 5 holes to put Skerries 1 up going down the last.  However, with Hollywood Lakes winning the 18th, the match went down the 19th.

With everyone waiting on tenderhooks in Skerries, VC Ivan “Radar” Cole kept the members informed with shot-by-shot commentary.  Thankfully, the lads completed a fantastic turnaround on the 1st play-off hole.  Congratulations to all the team for a big performance.  I would particularly like to thank Karl Tracy and Graham Brereton for the tremendous work that they have put into building a competitive Barton Cup and Jimmy Bruen panel.  We look forward with optimism to our next matches in both competitions in the next few weeks.
