North County Dublin Golf Sixes League

Skerries Golf Club recently partook in a North County Dublin Golf Sixes League comprising of boys and girls.

In 2023 Golf Ireland, in conjunction with the R&A /Golf Foundation and following on from the 2022 pilot program arranged Golf Sixes Leagues throughout the island. The year 2024 saw another significant increase in participation in the Golf Sixes leagues where over 1000 boys and girls from 100 league teams participated in 23 leagues across the country. These participation numbers represent an almost 300% increase year on year.  Each of the twenty-three leagues included a maximum of six teams from the same area keeping travel time for players and their families to a minimum. Each team hosted a round of matches at their home club, giving many juniors their first experience of representing their club at an away venue. To support the events, each club were supplied with a resource box including branding/scorecards/balls/ tees as well as caps for each player to wear as a team uniform.

The Golf Sixes Format (League) was as follows:

Played on a 6-hole course – 3 x approx. 100 yrds – 3 x approx. 150 yds.

ShotGun start where possible.

Squad of 12, with only 6 playing at each event

Girls 28.0 or above or no handicap

Boys 28.0 and above or no handicap

Modified points scoring system

2-person scramble (3 pairs), with the best 2 cards counting each day/evening
