Men’s Interclub Teams Update – 12th June

Last weekend, we had another busy weekend of interclub matches.  It was inspiring to see so many of our very talented young players representing Skerries in both the Men’s Leinster trophy and the Junior Cup.

Our Junior Cup team is now in the 4th round of North Leinster after a 4.5 to 0.5 win over Black Bush. Jacob Cardiff (7&6) and Calvin Kinsella (2&1) were followed up with away wins from Jeff Sexton (3&2) and John O’Brien (2&1).  Zach Neary’s match was in the balance when it was called in.  Overall, it was a tremendous performance from such a young promising team.  Next round we play Headfort, where team manager Kingsley Lewis recently had a fantastic win in their Junior Scratch Cup.  We hope this is a good omen for our team.

In the Men’s Leinster Trophy, we were also well represented by our junior players with Jamie Daly, Cillian Wilde and Lucas Shannon representing Skerries at home. Both Jamie and Cillian had fantastic wins in their individual matches.  With Con Martin delivering a convincing win (6&4) in Rush, we needed just one more point to secure an overall win.  Paul O’Loughlen and John McDonnell were both 2 Up in the latter stages away but Paul was first to get over his match over the line on the 17th hole. Altogether, it completed a very successful day for Skerries Golf Club

Thank you to Kingsley, Brian and Jim who prepared both teams for their respective matches.  It is particularly encouraging to see so many of our young talented golfers representing Skerries and being part of a winning team.  It bodes well for the future of the Skerries Golf Club in Interclub Competition.

On Sunday, 1st June, the men’s Jimmy Bruen team were narrowly beaten by Forest Little by 2.5 to 1.5.  We came very close to forcing a play-off on the 18th in Skerries but unfortunately could only get a half in the final match.  It really is very fine margins and on this occasion, it didn’t go our way.  The men’s committee would like to acknowledge the great commitment from Graham Brereton and the panel for their work over the last few months.

This weekend, the men’s Barton Cup team will take on Deer Park on Saturday at 14:00 and the Barton Shield team take on Luttrelstown on Sunday at 13:30.  If you are around, we would be delighted to see you come out and support the team.  Please note that Barton Shield is all away matches. Below is the schedule of upcoming interclub matches.
