| The excitement continued this week for our Interclub teams, with some fantastic golf, great determination, and plenty of drama right to the very end. Last Sunday, our Ladies Junior Cup team took on Howth in a thrilling encounter, with three matches at home in Skerries and two away. The opening match in Howth went the home side’s way, but the second away match proved to be a real battle. It went all the way to the 18th hole, with the result hanging in the balance until the very end and either side capable of claiming victory. Back in Skerries, our ladies secured an excellent win in the first home match, while the second developed into another fiercely contested battle. Unfortunately, the match eventually went in Howth’s favour on the 16th hole, giving them a 3–2 lead overall. With the remaining Skerries match standing Skerries dormie three, it was called in, bringing a close to a highly competitive fixture. There was a tremendous display of golf from all involved, and every player represented the club with great pride and determination. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Ciara Boylan and her management team for their hard work and dedication throughout the campaign, as well as to all the supporters who travelled and turned out to cheer the team on.
On Monday, our Ladies Fingal Senior team played Howth in their second league match. Once again, Howth proved extremely difficult opponents on home soil. One of the away matches went all the way to the 18th hole in another nail-biting contest that could easily have gone either way. Despite the challenging conditions, our ladies put in a tremendous performance throughout. Meanwhile, back in Skerries, the home team secured two excellent victories, ensuring full points from the home matches. The overall result saw Skerries collect another four valuable league points.
Following their opening five-point haul, this latest success brings the team’s tally to an impressive nine points in the league standings. Attention now turns to the final league fixture against St. Anne’s, which takes place on Friday, 17th July, with matches commencing at 12 noon. On Sunday, the Men’s Senior Cup team played Westmanstown with 2 matches at home and 3 away. The standard of golf on display was of a very high standard with each match swinging back and forth throughout the afternoon. A tremendous 5&4 win by Robert Kenny in Skerries was great start. Westmanstown got one back quickly with the remain 3 matches all very close. Ethan McGarry had a fantastic win on the 18th in Westmanstown against their lowest handicap player (+2.2). The final 2 matches went down to the wire but unfortunately, Skerries came out the wrong side on this occasion, losing one match on the 17th and one on the 18th hole. There were a lot of positives to take form the performance of the Skerries team and we know that with the talent emerging in Skerries, we will get stronger next year. We look forward to 2027 with optimism. A big thank you to Paul S Byrne and Paul Byrne for the work that they put into the managing both the Barton Shield and Senior Cup teams this year. |
