Sports Capital Grant Skerries Golf Club

Sports Capital Programme 2024

IN CASE YOU MISSED THE NEWS – SKERRIES GOLF CLUB WAS AWARDED AN IMPRESSIVE €149,495 IN THE LATEST ROUND OF SPORTS CAPITAL GRANTS. THIS FUNDING REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE IN OUR JOURNEY TO ENHANCE THE CLUB’S FACILITIES AND ENSURE THEIR SUSTAINABILITY FOR YEARS TO COME.

The grant will be used to upgrade the golf course’s irrigation system, which has become outdated and less effective in meeting the demands of modern climate challenges. Our current system, installed several decades ago, struggles to provide consistent coverage and efficient water usage, especially during periods of drought. A state-of-the-art irrigation system will allow us to maintain the course to a higher standard while adopting more sustainable water management practices.

In preparation for this, the Committee of Management worked with an external project manager to tender for a new system and has identified a preferred bidder. Additionally, the Finance Working Group has started discussions with our bank regarding loan options to fund the project.

The full project plan, including proposed funding arrangements, will be presented to members in the coming months for discussion and voting. We will organise informational sessions to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of the project’s scope, timeline, and financial implications. Your input is valuable, and we encourage all members to participate in this important decision-making process.

We are excited about the future improvements this project will bring to our club, from enhanced playing conditions to increased sustainability. These upgrades will benefit both current and future members.
