Multi-Tee Competitions Explained

Muliti-Tee Competitions

We are all used to these types of tee markers that are typically based on gender or status (member or non-member). Golf Ireland and the world handicap system (WHS), has moved away from the use of gender based tees.

ABILITY BASED, NOT GENDER

Golf Courses are allowing competition rounds from different tees in a way that better reflects a golfer’s level of ability, rather than their gender.

The WHS allows golfers who play from tees other than the regular ‘standard tees’ and have scores compared equitably to other players in daily competition.

When a golfer elects to play from a shorter set of tees, their handicap will be lower than if they play a longer, more challenging course.

COMPETITIONS

Multi Tee competitions are a great way of encouraging new golfers to be involved in club competitions.

Some players may struggle with a longer course while their game is developing, which can be discouraging.

Multi Tee competitions are a great way of encouraging older golfers to stay in the game.

Under the World Handicap System all players can be entered into the same competition with the same chance of winning.

See Rule 6.2b in the R & A Rules of Handicapping for more information on multi tee competitions.
