Barton Cup – Match Report

Last weekend, Skerries played Corrstown in the men’s Barton Cup.  After 9 holes, we we’re down in 4 of 5 matches.  However, the team fought back brilliantly with Jeff Sexton &  Eoin Wilde and Paul O’Loughlin & Dean Robinson winning their matches.  Having narrowly lost 2 of of our away matches, all rested on the final match at home.   At dormie 4 down, it was not looking good, but Jacob Cardiff and Robbie O’Connor won the next 3 holes and were heading down 18 with a great chance to pull off a fantastic comeback.  After a superb pitch into the hole from Jacob, our hopes were raised for a dramatic play-off.  However Corrstown held a 15 foot putt to half the 18th hole, just getting over the line.

While the team were disappointed to go out by such a narrow margin, the club is very proud of the resiliance and fight that the team showed throughout the match.  The golf committee would particularly like to thank Karl Tracey and Graham Brereton for the tremendous work they put into managing both the Barton Cup and Jimmy Bruen Shield in 2026.

BC Home Team : Dean Robinson, Paul O’Loughlin, Karl Tracey, Robbie O’Connor and Jacob Cardiff.

BC Away Team : Andrew Smith, Barry Sexton, Eoin Wilde, Jeff Sexton, SGC Captain Ivan Cole and Derek Finnigan.
