Ladies Senior Foursomes Team Advances to Semi-Finals After Thrilling Victory

There was great excitement on Thursday 18th June, as our Senior Foursomes team managed by Fiona Farrell recorded a magnificent victory over a very strong Island Golf Club side to secure their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

The tie was finely balanced throughout. While Skerries came up just short in the away fixture, all attention then turned to the two home matches, where the drama was only beginning.

The first home pairing produced a superb performance, delivering a resounding 7&6 victory to put Skerries firmly back in contention. This left everything resting on the final match, which proved to be a real nail-biter.

In a fiercely contested battle, neither side was willing to give an inch, and the match went all the way to the 18th hole. With the outcome hanging in the balance, the Skerries pair produced the perfect finish, with a fabulous birdie on the final hole securing the vital victory and sending the team through to the semi-final stage.

The semi-finals and finals will both be played on the same day, 18th July, at Royal Dublin Golf Club. Reaching this stage is a tremendous achievement, and the team deserves enormous credit for their determination, composure, and outstanding golf under pressure.

We wish Fiona and the team every success as they prepare for their semi-final challenge and encourage all members who can to come along to Royal Dublin and lend their support. With momentum on their side, we hope to see the team progress all the way to the final and continue this fantastic run.

Ladies Intermediate Foursomes Team’s Run Ends at Quarter-Final Stage

On Thursday, 18th June, our Intermediate Foursomes team faced a formidable challenge in the quarter-finals when they took on Headfort Golf Club, last year’s All-Ireland finalists.

The two away matches were played in extremely difficult weather conditions, with heavy rain and challenging conditions making play particularly demanding. Despite battling hard throughout, Headfort secured victory in both away matches.

Back on home soil, the contests were much closer, with our players producing some excellent golf and fighting all the way. However, Headfort managed to edge one of the matches, while the remaining match was called in, bringing our team’s campaign to an end.

While the result was disappointing, the team can be proud of their efforts and commitment throughout the competition. Reaching the quarter-final stage is a significant achievement, and the players represented the club with great determination and sportsmanship.

A huge thank you to Liz McNamara, Ann Ryan, and Patricia Garry for the tremendous time, effort, and dedication they invested in managing and supporting the team throughout the season. Their hard work is greatly appreciated by all involved.

Although this year’s journey has come to an end, the experience gained will stand to the team, and we look forward with optimism to another successful campaign next year.

Irish Mixed Fourball Team Narrowly Defeated by Roganstown

On Saturday, 20th June, our Irish Mixed Fourball team took on Roganstown Golf Club in what proved to be a very closely contested and enjoyable encounter. Under the guidance of team managers Martin Coleman and Bridgeen Coyle Skerries fielded two pairings at home and two away in the always-popular competition.

With the away matches getting underway an hour earlier, the first results began to emerge from Roganstown. Both matches were fiercely competitive, with one contest going all the way to the 18th hole before eventually going Roganstown’s way. The visitors secured the advantage from the away leg, leaving all eyes focused on the matches in Skerries.

The home ties provided plenty of drama, with both pairings involved in tightly fought battles throughout. Neither side could gain a decisive advantage, and both matches remained in the balance right to the closing stages. In remarkable fashion, both contests went all the way to the 18th hole and ultimately finished all square.

With the two home matches halved and Roganstown holding the advantage from the away fixtures, the overall result saw Roganstown emerge victorious by 3 matches to 1.

While the outcome was disappointing, the team can take great pride in their performance in what was a keenly contested and sporting match from start to finish.

A sincere thank you to Martin Coleman and Bridgeen Coyle for their hard work, commitment, and organisation throughout the campaign. Thanks also to all the players who represented the club so well and contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable day of competitive golf.

Ladies Challenge Trophy Team Bow Out After Hard-Fought Contest

On Sunday, 21st June, our Challenge Trophy team travelled to Castleknock Golf Club for their latest outing in this year’s competition. Having secured an impressive home victory over Sutton in the previous round, the team faced a much tougher task away from home against a strong Castleknock side.

The format saw all players complete a nine-hole Stableford competition, with the best three scores from each team counting towards the final result. As always, our players represented the club with great determination and sportsmanship, producing some excellent golf throughout the afternoon.

Despite a valiant effort and a closely fought contest, Skerries were narrowly defeated on this occasion. While the result did not go our way, the team can take great pride in their performance and commitment.

A sincere thank you to Maire Keogh for her excellent work in organising and managing the team throughout the competition. Thanks also to all the players for their hard work and dedication, and to the caddies whose time, encouragement, and support played an important role on the day.

Well done to everyone involved for representing the club so admirably.
