Ladies Senior Foursomes Crowned Leinster North Champions

A huge congratulations to the Skerries Ladies Senior Foursomes team, who enjoyed a memorable day last Saturday by winning the Leinster North title and booking their place in the All-Ireland Finals.

The morning began with a challenging semi-final against a very strong Headfort Golf Club team. Skerries got off to a flying start when Sarah-Jane McNally and Joanne Kinsella secured a superb 5&3 victory in the second match. The third match ended in a narrow 2&1 defeat, leaving everything to be decided in the opening match.

Maria Dunne and Lizzie Hughes looked to be in control as they held a two-hole lead with three holes to play, but Headfort produced a determined comeback to level the match on the 17th. With the tie hanging in the balance, Maria and Lizzie held their nerve magnificently to win the 18th hole, securing the crucial point and sending Skerries through to the afternoon final.

In the Leinster North Final, Skerries faced Malahide Golf Club, who had defeated Royal Tara in their morning semi-final. Once again, the standard of golf was exceptional, with every match fiercely contested from start to finish.

The opening match went in Malahide’s favour, with Skerries narrowly losing 3&1. However, for the second time that day, Sarah-Jane McNally and Joanne Kinsella delivered a brilliant performance, recording a 3&1 victory to level the tie.

With one match won apiece, the Leinster North title rested on the final pairing of Fiona Farrell and Mary Kenny. In a gripping contest where neither side gave an inch, the match finished all square after 18 holes, sending the players down the 19th. Showing tremendous composure under pressure, Fiona and Mary won the extra hole to secure a famous victory and crown Skerries as Leinster North Champions.

A sincere thank you to all the supporters, team members and club members who travelled to cheer on the team throughout the day. The players greatly appreciated the fantastic support, and it was wonderful to see such a strong Skerries presence.

The team now advances to the All-Ireland Finals, which will take place at Shandon Park Golf Club, Belfast, on 26th and 27th August. We wish the team every success as they prepare for what promises to be a very exciting championship.

Ladies Fingal Senior League

Congratulations to the Skerries Ladies Senior Fingal League team, who took on St. Anne’s in their final league fixture last Friday.

The teams contested four closely fought matches, with Skerries playing two away and two at home. Away from home, Skerries suffered a narrow defeat in the first match on the 16th hole. However, in the second away match, the team produced a remarkable comeback. Trailing by three holes with just three to play, they battled back to secure a hard-earned draw, earning a valuable point.

The home matches were equally competitive. The first went all the way to the 18th hole, where Skerries secured an excellent half. In the second home match, Skerries delivered a superb performance, claiming victory on the 14th hole.

These results earned Skerries a total of four league points, enough to secure second place in the league table and qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

Congratulations to Marion Bentley and the entire team on a fantastic achievement. We wish them every success in the knockout stages, and we look forward to bringing you further updates as the competition progresses.

Match Report Under 15’s Boys Leinster Match Play Championship v Howth GC

We played our Third Round match of this competition on Thursday July 16th  and the three matches were played at home.  The team from Howth was a very formidable one, having beaten a very strong Clontarf  team in Clontarf.

The boys played very good golf and used our own home course knowledge to very good advantage and we won the match on by a score of 2.5 to 0.5. Darragh Healy won his match on a score of 2 up. Daniel Lee won his match by a score of 3&2  and Seth Morgan was all square when called in on the 17th.

The team were greatly encouraged by the support of a great turnout of Junior Boys Members who loudly cheered all their opening tee shots and followed them around the course while maintaining a respectful distance and remaining silent while both our own team and their opponents played their  shots. This fact was both welcomed and warmly congratulated by the visiting Team Manager.

We now progress to the fourth round of this competition. We are away to Co. Louth  GC (Baltray) the match  to be played on or before Monday August 3rd.
