Down Memory Lane

Its almost thirty years since Mary Leonard and Mary Kenny won the Daily Mail Womens Foursomes Matchplay at Sheringham golf club in Norfolk England in October 1995 . This tournament included players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with over 1500 clubs participating. Skerries Golf Club has a history of doing well in this competition with Maureen Andrews and Mary O Leary winning in the Irish qualifying area six years previously and representing Ireland at Royal Portcawl in Wales.

Both Marys comprehensively defeated a Welsh pair from Camarthen in Wales and their homecoming at Dublin Airport was celebrated wildly by many family and friends from Skerries.

Today, both Marys are very much involved in the club playing and participating in social activities with their respective family’s golfing tradition being maintained to equally high standards,
