Biodiversity Group
During 2024 a Biodiversity Audit and Action plan was prepared by Allen and Mellon for Skerries Golf Club. Following on from this a Biodiversity Subcommittee has been established, chaired by Peter Counihan, the subcommittee includes; Michael Calvey, Joan Kehoe, Elizabeth McNamara, Brendan Crowe and Mary Kenny.
To date the subcommittee has had two meetings to set out their objectives and priorities from the action plan report.
The aim will be to start with small projects in areas that won’t impact on our members’ enjoyment of golf. Some of these projects you may have noticed already, others will become apparent in the next few weeks.
One of the salient points of the report is that we should only plant native flowers/shrubs and trees. We will therefore be looking at a range of plants for the refurbished 12th tee that are native and insect friendly
